HEA for Boobward? (Spoiler Warning!)

So, for those who have read and reviewed chapter 34 and found the ending (sans epilogue) not "HEA enough" I have a question - Does this Edward deserve a complete and unimpaired HEA? Let's look back on what he's done - violently attacked and kidnapped Bella, killed a store clerk and a nurse with a family, nearly attacked a child for touching Bella, attacked his own brother, almost killed Newton and a variety of other transgressions. After all of that, should he have complete absolution? Or should he have a reminder that some choices come with a high cost?

What do you think, and why? I'm dying to know, so leave a comment! :)

  1. I think as long as they're together and happy...then it's a good enough HEA. Even though times may not always be easy for them, they'll get through it together.

  2. Way to guilt me out of my pouty review...ok maybe you're right. he doesnt deserve a perfect HEA. Its the idealist in me that always sees all edwards thru rose colored glasses.

  3. almost killed Newton

Ya know, when you put it like that... he should get a medal, if not a complete HEA. ^^

But seriously. Not every story needs that uber-fluffy HEA with them being 100% happy all the time, snuggling together, and their kid playing right in front of their eyes. That's been done so many times already.

I wouldn't say 'does he even deserve a full HEA' because we all know he went crazy because he met Bella, there wasn't much he could do. He was temporarily insane. He was a good guy before, even though he left for a few years in the beginning of his life to hunt humans. (criminals!)

And, you know... it's not like he didn't give Newton a car in exchange for the stuff that happened. And Newton staying away from his girl...

So, it doesn't have to be perfect, but as long as his blackout aren't too severe and he can live with things, as can Bella and the rest of his family, then it's okay. He can still compose, and math and chem are easily avoided by a vamp: does he still have to go to school?

    On to reading SB again.

  4. Oh I don't think he deserves a completely perfect HEA. I think it would have been just if he had no HEA actually. He's done some horrible, HORRIBLE things. I still love him, but for him to be slightly insane for eternity is OK with me.

  5. I would seriously be disappointed if Carlisle found the right cure and Edward magically and completely recovers. This is not how I felt the story was going and as a reader would feel like it was a cop out ending...I don't need an HEA with every fic I read. Edward and Bella will have their challenges...Bella's devotion to Edward is his cure....for now.

  6. I though it was perfect just because it wasn't "perfect". actually I think he will be able to learn lots of stuff again and this can be kind of fresh for him.
I'm looking forward for her change! can't wait to see how it will affect them. hope to see that on the epilogue!!,

  7. Your question is interesting...was he undeserving of a completely happy ending? I wasn't one who was displeased with the imperfect happy ending because they both ended up with unconditional love and that was enough for me. Not every ending is perfect. I just didn't look at the ending in terms of punishment and retribution.

I also could have justified a perfect ending mainly because, well, Edward is a vampire, not a human. He did what vampires do - kill humans and drink their blood. No surprise there, right? His true nature took over and I'm not sure I would call that a 'choice'. Yes, there were things he could have done before he kindnapped Bella like turning to his family, but, he gave in to what he really was and completely lost control after decades of having control. In the end, though, Edward fought against the monster inside of him. He suffered terribly both mentally and physically. He was willing to bury himself in the tombs of Volterra forever rather than hurt Bella or kill again. By doing this, he did redeem himself (in my eyes anyway) and the case could be made that he deserved a perfect ending, no?

Or maybe I am entirely too forgiving when it comes to Edward. Who the hell knows.

Looking forward to see where you take this in the epilogue.

  8. I agree with Judy, he did redeem himself. Even though I didn't like him much in the beginning, considering what he is, he could've done much much worse things. So yeah, I think he deserves a perfect HEA because even insanity didn't make him a real monster.
