Indie Authors Unite!

Writers and readers alike, but mostly indie authors: this is a great article over all. Trends in eBooks vs. paperback, yada yada. You've probably read a lot of it before.

I want to focus on #7 in this list: "Successful indies are mentoring the next generator of writers."

Since August when I quit the day job and started doing this full time, I have been continually amazed at the amount of support I have received from other indie authors. They aren't fans; a lot of them have never read my stuff and wouldn't like it if they did. Still, they share their knowledge, their experiences, their tips and tricks. It's not just one or two individuals, but the whole community.

We could see each other as "the competition," but we don't. There is no "us and them." We are comrades. We are cohorts. We are all in this together.

If you are an indie author, veteran or newbie, embrace your community. They are a beautiful group of people. Help them. Consider their advice. Mentor them. Challenge their views. Share your knowledge and resources. Embrace the tried-and-true methods. Find new ways to succeed and share those ideas. In the long run, we'll all be better off for the effort.
