Teaser Tuesday! UC Chapter 23

It's that time again!  It's getting late, and I need my sleep, so here we go!  I think the chapter should be out by the end of the week.

Take note!  There's email subscription on the blog now!  Hopefully, it will work once I get everything set up. :)

I lost track of the number of days I simply lay in our bed trying to stop thoughts of Edward from plaguing my conscious mind, and occasionally sleeping when I could no longer keep my eyes open.  Alice had sat beside me a few times, and I tried to hold conversation with her, but her state was not much better than mine.  I feared we were worse for each other rather than better.

When a messenger finally came to my door, my body went cold as he began to speak.

“Your presence is demanded by Esme, Queen of Forks,” he said simply, and then left the room.

His words did nothing to ease my sense of dread as I pulled myself from my position on the bed and found Jane waiting to help me dress.  I wanted to fight her on the choice of attire, but we both knew if Queen Esme was calling for me, I needed to be properly dressed.

“You may go, Jane,” Esme said as we entered the grand hall and approached the throne.  Carlisle was not present, nor were there any other members of the court – only Esme, with Alice standing beside her.

“Isabella, we need to speak.”

I felt my hands begin to tremble, and I found myself unable to look into the Queen’s face.

“I know what you are feeling,” she started, “for I have felt it many times before.  But you cannot continue as you have been.  If you do, I will be forced to send you to another part of the kingdom, so your influence does not compromise our people.”

Had I heard her right?  Was the Queen going to send me away?  If I were to be sent to another part of the kingdom, where would I sleep, and with whom would I stay?  I thought of the rooms I was in, and how many of the items there still carried Edward’s scent, or even his very presence.

The very idea of being away from the rooms I shared with my husband was absolutely unendurable.

  1. Well esme is a bitch as I thought from the start. I am sure Edward will be pleased with his mother threatening to send her away. If Esme cared she would talk to her and help her. obviously Esme only cares about appearance, but that has been clear from the start.

  2. So Edward is off to war and Bella is not doing so good. What the heck is up with Esme????? Guess we'll find out when the chapter is up. Thanks for the teaser.

  3. Oh, Esme's just trying to snap Bella out of her funk, albeit in a not so nice way. A queen must be strong, so I see Esme's point. I don't think Esme really would send her away.

  4. I think that Esme is just trying to get Bella to stand up and show a good face to the people...the people who are now HER people. They all need to have faith and who better to lead them in that than Sir Edward's wife?

  5. I agree with Kaitlin. I think Esme's calling her own "Come to Jesus" meeting: to tell both Bella and Alice to snap out of it. So many people look up to and depend on the royal family that being depressed, morose and devastated tells the people they also should have no hope. Should Bella one day become Queen, this would be more true than ever: i think that's what Esme's talking about when she says she "felt it many times".

  6. No wimps allowed, apparently.

Man up, Bella. You've faced down Edward. Esme should be a snap.

  8. I agree. Esme is teaching Bella how to be a queen. You don't wallow. You inspire and put on a positive face so the people have faith and hope. The people of the kingdom will love her for it!

  9. i think esme is teacher how to be a queen ,as when she is an he at war is in charge of her/his people how also have husben/son there. she must help the keep their town going till there return she can do that from a bed room or asleep. it will make them weaker and some could come along and take over make them lose the war. esme understand how she feel too, but at the same time she is putting her people before her bella, you all know what it like if you with some one who is sad you get sad, then u pass it on

  10. As usual, can't wait for the next chapter, though I do wish that you won't pull a whole six or seven chapter wait for Edward to come back. But I'm kinda sensing a sort of feeling that there will be some time (or chapters) before Edward comes back, so Bella and Edward will be able to learn their respective lessons. But still I hope you prove me wrong.

  11. It's time for Bella to realize that she's a princess now and she has responsibilities. People look up to her and if they see her with her morale down they'll loose their morale too.

I know she wants him back soon but she has to ... "woman up":) And maybe she'll learn how to read and write and some other stuff princess do so when he'll come back home he'll be proud of calling her his wife.

  12. i tink wat Esme did was needed. If Bella is to become the Princess/Queen of Forks one day, she has a far way 2 go and needs to learn to hold herself together from now!!!!!!! Especially knowing that she could be forced to rule one day if Lord forbids something shud happen to Lord Edward. Esme is a model for Lady Isabella!!!!!!! I dont think she would really send her away but that was just a lil wake up call..........

  13. I can't imagine Queen Esme sending Isabella far and since Alice is in the same mood, possibly it's a "Snap out of it!" ploy? Or would Isabella be sent near the battle? You can only imagine how Edward is feeling away from his wife for so long. There may be something sneaky up the Queen's sleeve. ;) Awesome teaser!

  14. I agree that Esme is trying to teach Bella, but I think Esme forgets that Bella is not of royal blood and so Bella does not know how to act. But to have Alice who is also depressed over Jasper to stand there with Esme is so not cool. Its as if Esme is saying that it is ok for Alice to be sad but sorry Bella you can't be. I can't wait for the update and see how this little meeting goes and what Edward will say when he hears of his mothers threats to send Bella away.
