Will it be HEA?

I've been asked this question since Hide and Drink was out there, and even more often when H&D arrived at its original end point (tragic).  I do love a good tragedy.  With the latest developments in Unexpected Circumstances, this question is being asked again.  A lot! :)

I don't make any assurances on a work in progress.  I'm not so sure you'd want my opinion on it anyway, considering I had no idea the current UC issue was going to cause such an uproar.  I'm obviously not a good judge with how others perceive things!

Warning!  Offside Foreshadowing!!  Don't read this paragraph if you don't want to know! It's very possible what shall be coming up soon in Offside is going to tick someone off, too.  I'll probably lose readers, because...well...I guess I can't say "because," because I don't get it. :)  To each their own.  Some people definitely aren't going to like what happens.  I'm not sure if this is news to anyone, but sometimes you aren't supposed to "like" it.  Sometimes its there to make you think, to make you feel, or to make you consider a topic in a different light.

And sometimes, shit just happens.

If you've read my other (complete) stories, and were satisfied with the ending, you'll probably be satisfied with the ending of most of what I write.  They may or may not be HEA.  They should still be satisfying and make sense, considering what the protagonist(s) have endured and learned.

  1. Savage,

Can you honestly say you don't "get it" when you lose readers over what is currently happening in your stories?  Let me share with you a bit of wisdom.  About 95% of the people who read E/B stories do not want to forced to read about either of them being with anyone other than each other.  Let me repeat that - People don't like reading Edward and Bella being with other people.   They don't want to read about Edward fucking Angela, they don't want to read about him getting a blowjob from Lauren or making out with Leah on the bus or being groped by Heidi.  These are things I would think you would pick up on after all this time writing ff.  There are many of us who have absolutely no problem with angst as long as it allows some common sense and communication between the main characters.  Like actually having Edward TALK to Bella and maybe trying to help her understand what is going on.  There is enough angst with what Carlisle is doing in Offsides without trying to manipulate us all once again by throwing Heidi in there to make us think Edward is going to cheat on Bella.  Hell, maybe he will! I wouldn't be surprised at all at this point.  Won't we all enjoy an entire update dedicated to having Edward getting sucked off by Heidi in the bathroom?  Do you actually think we would find that hot or sexy to read?  We won't.

Maybe you have a very different idea of what love and romance is, but many of us do not find it fun, entertaining, or enjoyable to read about Edward or Bella being with other people. There is plenty of the angst you love out there with the two of them working together instead of always falling back on the easy standby of throwing other people in the mix.

  4. It is what it is. This is how your write. HEA are subjective. In H&D as well as CBWR, to me it was because it made sense in the story. Hiding Bella, not so much because I felt the story was incomplete where you left it and have hopes you'll continue it one day. There's another really good writer I follow, Ooza, she wrote a phenominal story, Here In The Garden of Sin. She was lambasted for her ending and flamed. Again, to me, her ending made perfect sense with the story. But, people want a traditional HEA. That will not always happen based on the flow of the story. I am fine with that.

The problem people are having with UC is the introduction of the perverial cheating and emotional shredding. It's a lot. UC is by far the most angsty you have ever written. Regardless of the time frame the story takes place in, people are not liking what is happening to their beloved E and B. I have to admit, I have a hard time with it to.

In a nut shell, these are not your characters you created and developed. Many of us read FF and participate in the fandom because of our love for E & B and wanted more of them. Your storyline, and that is yours takes well known characters and places them them in some rough situations. It is hard to accept that when we know them so well and won't believe these things would happen to them. To me, it's the same when FF authors publish and have to change the names and places. I don't always like the story as much. it's a very catch-22 we as the readers are in as well as you as the writers are in.

I think you are an extremely gifted and intelligent writer, hence Offside, though I am a little saddened by ppl wanting to kill Carlisle as opposed to looking at the situation on a whole. But that's just me.

So we the readers, when we balk and get upset, have a little empathy for us. We are still reading and following, we are just very torn with the circumstances.

  5. Honestly, that ending would have been far superior in my eyes. I just couldn't accept their romance after all he had done to her and other innocent bystanders. Bella would have been initially heartbroken, but I would have liked to see her heal and move on - perhaps with Jacob or someone else.

  6. as a teacher of some 30 years standing, what you say can be and should be true. but plenty of kids fall through the cracks for many many reasons, and i find this situation with edward and carlisle very believable, unfortunately.
